Why We Hunt
Note: If you are a new hunter you may not "get" this yet.
Why do we hunt? Most of us don't have the time and don't need the meat. Were not out there for the kill, we're not out there to feed the family, we're not even out there for a trophy.
We're out there, because we need to be "out-there". We seldom live "in the moment" except when we are "out-there".
We need the natural connection, to free our spirit, to feed our soul.
When we hunt our senses, at times go on "high-alert". All the worlds troubles are pushed from our mind and we become connected to that short moment in time.
"High-alert" often happens when something pulls us into it; when we think we hear, or see something. For a highly attuned, skilled, hunter, it's almost a sixth sense. We may sense that something is about to happen; before it happens.
Many of us cannot step away from "life", easily, to get into our true hunting mode. It takes a little time in the field before we hunt, before we can hush the voices of life. Before we become attuned to what's around us; the natural.
After some time in the field; we can turn off, or tune out, those things which have been pulling and pushing at us. We may realize that some only existed in our mind! Ah! A moment of clarity!
Hunting; we are in touch with often ignored senses. We feel spiritual at times, separate from everything except the natural. We don't hear the voice in our head, we don't think about our body, we are so focused that we can move above all of that for a moment.
We hear intensely, we question little sounds, what can make that sound, where is it coming from...
We see intensely, a leaf turning in the wind, just for a moment, it can hold our full attention. Back in the "world" we may not even notice a leaf. But hunting; for a moment it is more than a leaf, it is something important. It has life and a mysterious beauty of it's own.
Then we identified it; that old voice in our head says, "it's just a leaf". That voice which can dull our senses, that voice which can kill our enthusiasm...
Hunting we may actually reach a higher place, sometimes turning off that voice in our head, "the ego" . We don't need it talking, it's just extra noise, it's only a distraction. For a short time we can live life, in the moment.
A small child lives life like an adventure. Growing-up, becoming an adult, most of us loose that ability. We often carry to much around with us, some of it real, some only in our mind. We may loose most of our ability to live in the moment. It's the highest form of living, being connected, really living...
When we hunt, we are hunting for those moments.
