Some have been interested in what I take hunting, especially my little easy camping food kit above.
Most hunting is done during the colder time of the year, so part of my hunting kit includes a compact "warm-up" food kit. It's very simple: Instant Coffee, Hot Chocolate Mix, Hot Cider Mix, Instant Oatmeal, and Ramen Soup Mix.
The main reason I take this little camp food kit is to have something warm to drink when the thermos is empty. If I should decide to stay longer than planned, it's not the best, but I will have a little something to eat and drink.
Simple, easy, and they take up very little space. The food and drink mixes last a long time, and don't require any special care... They only require hot water, except the Ramen, which needs a little cook time. None are used because they are 'so' delicious.
With four of the fuel tablets folded in the tiny stove, it can all fit in the mug, and the pot. Nice to have when your cold and need something quick to help you warm-up.
The tiny folding Esbit stove with one tablet last just long enough to cook the Ramen Noodles. One tablet will easily heat enough water for an instant beverage, maybe two. You can blow them out with a quick, strong, focused blow, and relight them later.
Note: We're not talking about a lot of heat. You must shield the stove from the wind and use it wisely. The main advantage is simple, compact, easy... Don't plan on actually cooking with it.
The big plastic toolbox pictured above stays ready for a hunt. It has room for the little warm-up kit and many other odds-n-ends. It helps me keep everything organized.
I have simplified my gear over the years, and take some things I very seldom use. I don't really need this big toolbox today.
I travel about fifty miles one way to hunt and usually return home the same night. If I'm going for several days I take camping gear, food, propane stove... Visit the
