About Us
About us, we lived three miles north of a small town in North Eastern Texas.
Dad married the girl next door > In the country those doors were about 200 yards apart. We lived in the middle with my grandparents 100 yards north and south.
My relatives are still scattered along that beautiful old country road.
From age eight I've hunted and fished. Grand-Dad taught me to fish. Dad taught me to hunt quail, squirrel, and a little about deer. The whole family taught me to respect people, property, guns, and living things. I was always hunting or thinking about hunting. First with a BB gun, and later with a .22. I didn't want to read in school, but I read the outdoor magazines. I wanted to be like Jack O'Connor a very popular gun-writer for "Outdoor Life" magazine.
I graduated in 1965. The Vietnam War was going strong; I joined the Air Force. In the Air Force I became interested in photography.
It truly became about 'us' at my last duty in Western Oklahoma, 1969. I met Sharon. (The picture above is from our honeymoon.) We both attended SWOSU after my AF discharge. Three years later I dropped out to be a professional photographer for the next 20 years.
Sharon got sick in the late 1980's so I took over teaching her 4th grade bible-school class. I learned that I liked teaching young kids! Almost forty years old I went back to SWOSU and became a fourth grade school teacher. I've worked with women and kids for over 20 years. (That makes me an expert with wildlife!)
The beginning of "score-your-hunting".
Thinking about us, our future, I started looking for something to do when I retire. (I'm still teaching.) I was thinking about us, Sharon and I, but I wanted something important to me. Surprisingly, an idea started when a hunter told me about taking his trophy deer. He told about a hunting ranch where he was "wined and dined". Then he was driven out to a stand where he sat until 'his' big deer came to a feeder. I didn't say much, but it resonated with me! Why would he, a skilled hunter, want to kill a deer that way? I realized how some guys are obsessed with getting a trophy deer; it troubled me. It turned into an idea.
The "Score-Your-Hunting" website. At first my thoughts ran into each other: I didn't know anything about making a website! I'm not a writer I thought! I did know photography, hunting, guns... I was excited, but not very confident! I soon learned that websites don't cost much, but most are invisible, lost among the millions of websites on the internet.
I spend a lot of time in front of my computer now. (Some old man has been showing up in my pictures for the last few years :-)
I'm very thankful I found SBI. When I "discovered" SBI my website host/help; I didn't know how lucky I was. I was naive; I thought I only needed to build a good looking, informative website. Google would have ignored it.
Now I understand that there are thousands of great sites which we never see. They're not built to be found! I'm sure you would not be reading this had I built my site like that. SBI is the best! I believe I was lead to them. THANK YOU! GOD Continued on my SBI page:
